Things to do and experiences in Pacific Harbour area Fiji.
Pacific Harbour, located on the south coast of Viti Levu about 50km west of Suva, is a long stretch of uninterrupted beach that overlooks Beqa Passage with Beqa Island and Lagoon in the distance. Resorts on this coastline are not as prolific as the Coral Coast further west and that’s part of the attraction.
Affectionately known as the “adventure capital of Fiji”, Pacific Harbour is where you can experience mild excitements to full-blown adrenaline rushes through activities suitable for all ages. Some of the experiences below are unique to Nanuku Auberge Resort, one of our favourite places to stay in the region. Others can be experienced from further afield and are easily accessible no matter where you’re staying on the Coral Coast.
A “glamping” experience unlike any other
At Nanuku Auberge Resort (scroll down for our generous travel special) you can set up a tent in the “backyard” (i.e. the beachfront) of your Beachfront Residence and experience camping that rekindles your inner child. Whether you’re holidaying with or without kids, this experience is for the young at heart. Share stories under starlight with your iTokani* and toast marshmallows over your personal beach bonfire while listening to the soft sound of crashing waves.
* iTokani : Your personal concierge and “buddy” for the children supplied by the resort.
Catch your own freshwater prawns and cook up a feast
From Nanuku Auberge Resort, your iTokani can take you upriver to cast fishing nets to catch freshwater prawns alongside locals. Then join a local family in their kitchen to learn traditional cooking preparations including coconut steamed prawns smoked over an open flame. Enjoy the fruits of your labour in a memorable feast with your hosts.
Dive with several species of sharks in their natural habitat
For the ultimate adrenalin rush, experience the thrill of getting up close with a huge range of sharks in a cage-less shark diving experience. With a team of dive masters there to ensure your safety, you’ll descend up to 100 feet to view anywhere from 10 to 100 sharks feeding so closely, you might even feel the wake from their tails. Experience the breathtaking sight of up to eight species of sharks including Blacktip Reef Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Silvertip Sharks, Tawny Nurse Sharks, Sicklefin Lemon Sharks, Bull Sharks and even the occasional Tiger Shark.
In addition, you can also encounter Giant Groupers, Maori Wrasse, Rainbow Runners, Giant Trevally, Java Morays, Eagle Rays and more than 400 species of tropical reef fish, plus a mesmerising underwater world of soft corals. For diving enthusiasts, it really doesn’t get any better than this!

Explore local villages and be part of centuries-old ceremonies
Enjoy the warmth of the Fijian community and explore local villages, witness ceremonies that have been passed through generations as you take part in the famous yaqona (kava) ceremony, using the tanoa bowl and drinking from the coconut cup, ‘bilo’. Watch stories of old told through dance at the meke night. Learn about traditional herbal medicine, how to weave coconut leaves and the tree of life from our passionate local staff as they walk you through the resort’s gardens.
Chase down Wahoo and the elusive Yellow-fin Tuna
Anglers simply must experience the adrenaline rush of deep-sea fishing. Chase down a Wahoo, fight a Spanish Mackerel, hook a Blue Marlin, or find that elusive Yellow-fin Tuna. Whether you are a blue water fisherman, or a sport fisherman the resort’s custom boats and the best equipment virtually guarantee your success.

Surf some of the world’s best surf breaks
Fiji is home to some competition level world-renowned surfing breaks and none are more beautiful than Frigates Passage. Located only a short boat ride from most Pacific Harbour resorts, and with the magical backdrop of the mountains of Viti Levu, there is no better way to spend your day than connecting with the ocean as you ride her powerful waves.
Frigate Passage, or Frigates as it’s affectionately called, fringes a pass on the barrier reef surrounding Beqa Island. It is one of the most consistent surf spots not only in Fiji, but the entire South Pacific, and breaks over a relatively smooth coral reef.
Unlike the popular Mamanuca breaks, you will find Frigates largely uncrowded – a dream come true for most surfers.

Pacific Harbour’s convenient location offers visitors a smorgasbord of opportunities for exploration and adventure:
- Take a quick boat ride to a private island for a day trip or camp overnight;
- Hire a jet ski and explore the stunning waters surrounding the resort.
- Go down to Sigatoka Sand Dunes and see where the Fijian Olympic winning rugby team trained;
- Try white water rafting in the Namosi Highlands;

The region is a great base from which to explore the mountainous hinterland of Viti Levu with the capital Suva a leisurely day trip away. It’s easy enough to hire a car and drive yourself or you could arrange a car with your own driver from one of the resorts. Public buses also service the coastal Queens Road if you want to travel like the locals do.
