Plan ahead for your Fiji family holiday during the school holidays

Fiji family holidays – September / October 2019 school holidays.

Fiji fills up fast, particularly during the Australian school holidays.  The demand for some resorts is so high you must book at least 12 months in advance.  In fact, families who visit year after year know that they must call us when they return and book in for the next year.

For less organised travellers or a spur-of-the-moment school holiday break, this makes it difficult to secure accommodation in the highly sought after and best family resorts in Fiji.

For the coming July 2019 school holidays there is still limited availability at some resorts so don’t despair completely. Don’t worry, you won’t need to compromise as some of the better, less mainstream resorts do have availability. We will search until we find the resort that suits your specific needs.

Malolo Island Fiji is perfect for families

Malolo Island Fiji is one of our favourite family-friendly resorts.

If you had your heart set on one of our favourite resorts, Malolo Island Fiji, there is scattered availability during the July 2019 school holidays.  Availability is better during the September / October holidays but it is filling up fast.

If you follow our blog posts and receive our weekly e-blasts you’ll know that Malolo is a favourite with the Fjii Island Holidays team.  We have visited many times both for work and individually with our families.

There is so much about Malolo that is wonderful.  There is ample space for families and adults alike so everyone gets to experience the well deserved holiday they crave.

Kids can take part in a Robinson Crusoe style adventure

The addition of an adventure to a secluded island is unique to Malolo Island Fiji.

Tia’s Treehouse, Malolo’s amazing Kids Club, is one of the best in the Mamanuca region and is open to children aged 4 years and up.

Since our last Malolo Island Fiji travel review, a visit to Mociu Island has been added to the Kids Club program. During their visit to Mociu Island, kids experience a Robinson Crusoe style adventure complete with beach games, hermit crab hunting, snorkelling and treasure hunts. So much fun! Mum and Dad can go too or elect to stay behind for a well-earned break.

During the rest of the week, the Kids Club runs a specialised seven-day programme that focuses on a different theme each day including marine and natural environments, Fijian culture, coconut trees, Fijian food and arts, Fijian language lessons, and even a visit to the local Fijian school. A highlight is a visit from Likuliku’s iguanas from their captive breeding and environmental program.

Another highlight (especially for proud parents) is when the kids perform their own Meke on a Saturday night – all dressed in traditional costume.  This memory will stay with them forever and they will want to come back next year and do it all over again.

Teenagers aren’t overlooked either

Khail’s Club is a great place for older kids to relax and mingle.

Teenagers and older kids are not forgotten at Malolo.  Khail’s Club is located in the main building and has been created with teenagers aged 13 and above in mind.  It’s a great place for them to relax with their new friends for a game of table tennis or board game, watch the big screen satellite TV or take advantage of the WiFi and catch up on their social media. Best of all, the little ones won’t bother them.

Of course, Fiji is all about the outdoors and most teens will be found scattered throughout the resort either playing rugby on the beach, at the watersports bure utilising all sorts of equipment or heading out to snorkel.

malolo island fiji adults only pool

It’s not all about the kids though…

The grown-ups can relax by the adults-only pool and relaxation area.

Whilst the kids are having a blast in the Treehouse, adults can relax by the stunning adults-only pool, enjoy some indulgence at Leilani’s Spa, or a private picnic on Mociu Island (obviously when the kids aren’t playing pirate games).

If you can drag the kids away from the Treehouse or Khail’s Club, a family kayak in the iridescent blue waters that surround the island is a must. Make sure you return in time to watch the sunset and enjoy a cocktail (or two) by the pool.

Accommodation to suit all budgets

Malolo’s accommodation ranges from Island Bures to Ocean View and Deluxe Ocean View Bures.  The Deluxe Ocean View Bures provide more space for families with some accommodating up to two adults and three children. Larger families can be accommodated in one of the resort’s family bures. There are two adults-only Tadrai Bures located at the very far end of the beach.

Malolo’ stunning beachfront accommodation

 About Malolo Island Fiji

Malolo Fiji is an intimate resort with impeccable guest services. It’s about a bure near the beach, surrounded by the world’s friendliest people with a living and authentic culture. You will be served by the descendants of villagers who have lived there for thousands of years, offering true Fijian hospitality. Perfect for families and couples alike, at Malolo, you can fill your day with a myriad of activities or simply unwind and do nothing at all.

The Kids Club at Malolo is exceptional.  It’s free and caters for ages ages 4-12 years with plenty of fun and games to keep the kids busy and entertained.  For kids under 4 years, private baby sitting services can be arranged at a cost of F$10 per hour. Just down the verandah from the Talei Lounge is the air-conditioned Khail’s Club lounge for teenagers 13-18yrs where kids can enjoy table tennis and other games, huge bean bag lounges, satellite TV and free WiFi.

For the grown ups, Leilani’s Spa is a place to nurture the spirit and restore balance.  Nestled amidst a tranquil rainforest setting surrounded by lush tropical gardens, there are three treatment bures including one especially for couples. Leilani’s Spa offers a unique relaxation experience.

Unlike a lot of family-friendly Fiji resorts, the accommodation will comfortably accommodate 2 adults and 2 children or, if you need more space, there are three larger family bures.

Malolo Island features a fantastic variety of menus and dining locations where guests can enjoy a casual snack by the beach or relaxed dining amongst the coconut palms.
