Fiji is safe, welcoming and family focused.

When travelling overseas with children, safety is naturally one of the biggest considerations.

Through decades of genuine hospitality, Fiji has earned a reputation as one of the safest and most welcoming destinations in the world.

Family is central to Fijian culture and that warmth naturally extends to visitors. Children are treated with genuine affection and kindness, and you’ll quickly notice how naturally resort staff interact with younger guests. It isn’t unusual for your children to make friends with the Kids Club team within minutes of arriving or for staff to remember their names throughout your stay.

Most family resorts operate within secure, gated grounds with 24-hour security, giving parents peace of mind while children enjoy the pools, beaches and supervised Kids Club activities.

Many beachfront resorts are located on calm, reef-protected lagoons where shallow water provides ideal swimming conditions for younger children under parental supervision.

English is one of Fiji’s official languages, making communication easy whether you’re speaking with resort staff, tour operators or medical professionals. Larger resorts also have access to doctors or nearby medical clinics should they ever be required, providing additional reassurance when travelling with young children.

Less time travelling, more time relaxing.

One of Fiji’s greatest advantages is just how easy it is to get there.

For families travelling from Australia, Fiji is one of the closest tropical island destinations in the South Pacific. Direct flights operate regularly from Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Cairns, with flight times typically ranging from around three to five hours depending on your departure city. Families travelling from Perth can also reach Fiji with a short stopover via several major cities, making it an easy and convenient holiday destination from anywhere in Australia.

For parents travelling with young children, shorter flights often mean less stress, fewer travel disruptions and happier kids. Instead of spending an entire day in airports and on connecting flights, you’ll often be settling into your resort, enjoying lunch beside the pool or dipping your toes into the warm Pacific Ocean just a few hours after leaving home.

Many of Fiji’s most popular family resorts are also easily accessible from Nadi International Airport. Resorts on Denarau Island are only around 20 minutes away by road, while the Coral Coast can be reached in approximately one hour. Even the spectacular islands of the Mamanuca group are straightforward to access via high-speed catamaran, private water taxi or scenic helicopter transfer.

A destination that grows with your family.

One of the reasons so many families return to Fiji is that it evolves with their family, as kids grow.

A resort that was perfect when your children were toddlers can become just as enjoyable when they’re teenagers, offering new experiences and activities as they grow.

Parents travelling with babies appreciate the convenience of cots, highchairs, trusted nanny services and calm beaches. Families with younger children love the exceptional Kids Clubs, shallow lagoons and endless outdoor adventures. Teenagers can spend their days snorkelling vibrant coral reefs, paddleboarding, kayaking, surfing, diving or joining dedicated teen activity programs at selected resorts. Meanwhile, grandparents enjoy the relaxed pace, beautiful surroundings and the opportunity to create lasting memories with the younger generations.

Few destinations cater so successfully to every stage of family life, making Fiji an easy choice whether you’re travelling as a young family, celebrating a milestone birthday or organising a multi-generational holiday.

It’s about more than the beautiful beaches.

It’s the simple moments that often stay with you.

The crystal-clear water and white sandy beaches may be what first attracts families to Fiji, but they are rarely the only things people remember when they return home. More often, it is the quieter, simpler moments that stay with them. Watching children build sandcastles instead of scrolling on their phones, snorkelling together over colourful coral reefs, learning a few Fijian words from the Kids Club staff, sharing a sunset dinner overlooking the ocean, or listening to traditional singing as the light fades across the water.

Environmental and cultural programs.

Many Fiji resorts also offer excellent environmental and cultural programs as part of their Kids Clubs and family activity schedules. Depending on the resort, children may be invited to take part in coral planting, mangrove restoration, beach clean-ups, reef walks, turtle conservation programs or marine-life presentations. Some resorts work with local environmental organisations, marine biologists or village communities to help protect the surrounding reef systems and educate visitors about the importance of preserving Fiji’s natural environment.

These activities give children a better understanding of the delicate ecosystems around them and show how small actions can make a meaningful difference. A guided snorkelling session can become a lesson about coral health and reef fish. A walk along the shoreline can help children learn about tides, shells, crabs and marine habitats. A coral planting activity can give them a tangible connection to the reef and a lasting memory of contributing to its future.

Children can experience local customs.

Cultural programs are equally valuable. Children may learn traditional weaving, cooking, dancing, storytelling or Fijian language, while gaining a greater appreciation for local customs and community life. Rather than simply keeping children occupied, these experiences encourage curiosity, confidence and respect for other cultures. They also give families meaningful opportunities to learn together and take something home from their holiday beyond photographs and souvenirs.

In a world where family time often competes with busy schedules and digital devices, Fiji offers something increasingly rare: the chance to slow down, reconnect and share experiences that feel genuine. It is this combination of natural beauty, cultural connection and meaningful family time that often turns a Fiji holiday into one your family will still be talking about for years to come.

Which region of Fiji best suits your family?

Each region of Fiji offers a different holiday experience.

One of the first decisions you’ll make when planning a Fiji family holiday is choosing where to stay. While Fiji isn’t a large country, each region offers a different holiday experience, from convenient mainland resorts to secluded tropical islands.

The best destination for your family will depend on your children’s ages, how long you’re travelling and the type of holiday you’re looking for. Here’s a quick overview of Fiji’s most popular family holiday regions.

Denarau Island

Located just 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport, Denarau Island is ideal for first-time visitors and families with younger children. Home to several of Fiji’s largest family-friendly resorts, Denarau offers excellent Kids Clubs, multiple restaurants, shopping, golf and easy access to day cruises to the Mamanuca Islands. It’s perfect if you’re looking for convenience and plenty of facilities.

What we love about Denarau…
Denarau makes travelling with children incredibly easy. With short airport transfers, excellent facilities and everything close at hand, it’s a fantastic option for families who want to maximise their holiday time and minimise travel.

Coral Coast

The Coral Coast combines beautiful beaches with lush tropical scenery and some of Fiji’s most popular family resorts. Larger resort grounds, cultural activities, snorkelling, river adventures and village visits make this region an excellent choice for families wanting to relax while also experiencing more of Fiji beyond the resort.

What we love about the Coral Coast…
The Coral Coast offers a wonderful balance of relaxation and adventure. It’s one of our favourite regions for families who want to experience Fiji’s culture, explore local attractions and still enjoy all the comforts of a full-service resort.

Mamanuca Islands

If you’re dreaming of crystal-clear lagoons, white sandy beaches and a true tropical island escape, the Mamanuca Islands are hard to beat. Many of Fiji’s best-loved family resorts are located here, offering outstanding Kids Clubs, calm waters, snorkelling straight from the beach and plenty of water sports for all ages.

What we love about the Mamanuca Islands…
This is the Fiji many families picture when planning their holiday. The clear turquoise water, friendly island atmosphere and incredible snorkelling create unforgettable memories for both children and adults.

Yasawa Islands

The Yasawa Islands are perfect for families seeking a quieter, more secluded holiday. Known for spectacular scenery, pristine beaches and incredible snorkelling, they’re best suited to families with older children or those planning a longer stay who don’t mind travelling a little further to experience Fiji’s natural beauty.

What we love about the Yasawa Islands…
The Yasawa Islands feel wonderfully untouched. If you’re looking to slow down, disconnect from everyday life and immerse yourself in Fiji’s natural beauty, this region offers an unforgettable experience.

Pacific Harbour

Often referred to as Fiji’s adventure capital, Pacific Harbour is a great choice for active families. From rainforest adventures and river activities to cultural experiences and wildlife encounters, there’s plenty to keep older children and teenagers entertained.

What we love about Pacific Harbour…
Pacific Harbour showcases a different side of Fiji. It’s perfect for adventurous families who enjoy getting out into nature and trying experiences that go beyond the traditional beach holiday.

Northern Fiji

For families wanting to experience a more authentic side of Fiji, Northern Fiji offers lush rainforests, uncrowded beaches and a slower pace of life. It’s an excellent destination for nature lovers, repeat visitors and those looking to escape the more popular tourist areas.

What we love about Northern Fiji…
Northern Fiji rewards those who venture a little further. We love its relaxed pace, genuine local hospitality and the feeling of escaping to a part of Fiji that remains beautifully unspoilt.

Not sure which part of Fiji is right for your family?

Choosing the best family-friendly resort.

With hundreds of resorts and hotels to choose from, how do you know which one best suits your families requirements?

Fiji is home to hundreds of resorts and hotels, ranging from luxury private islands and boutique hideaways to large family-friendly resorts with Kids Clubs, multiple swimming pools and endless activities. While many welcome families, not every resort will be the right fit for your holiday.

One of the most common questions we’re asked is, “Which resort is best for our family?” The ages of your children, your preferred holiday style and even the length of your stay can all influence which resort will provide the best experience. Of course, budget is also a consideration.

Here are some of the key things we recommend considering before booking.

Consider the ages of your children

One of the reasons Fiji is so popular with families is the exceptional standard of its Kids Clubs and nanny services. Many resorts have invested heavily in creating engaging programs where children can play, learn and make new friends while parents enjoy some well-earned relaxation.

Kids Clubs vary from resort to resort, so it’s important to check the minimum and maximum age requirements before booking. Some cater primarily to younger children, while others also offer dedicated programs or activity schedules for teenagers.

Depending on the resort, children may enjoy arts and crafts, treasure hunts, coconut collecting, beach games, snorkelling, crab racing, traditional Fijian games, cooking classes, nature walks and cultural activities such as weaving, dancing and language lessons. Many resorts also include environmental programs where children can learn about coral reefs, marine life and conservation.

If you’re travelling with babies or toddlers, many resorts also offer professional nanny or babysitting services. This gives parents the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely lunch, a spa treatment or a romantic dinner, knowing their little ones are being cared for by experienced and friendly staff.

Expert travel tip
If your children are likely to spend time at the Kids Club, ask us which resorts offer the best programs for their age group. We’ve visited many of Fiji’s family resorts and can recommend those that consistently receive excellent feedback from our clients.

How long do you plan to holiday?

One of the most important factors when choosing a Fiji resort is how long you plan to stay and how much time you’re prepared to spend travelling after you arrive.

If you’re only holidaying for four or five nights, you may prefer to minimise your transfer time and maximise your time at the resort. Denarau Island is just 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport, while the Coral Coast is approximately an hour away, making both excellent choices for shorter family holidays.

If you’re staying for seven nights or longer, travelling to one of Fiji’s stunning island resorts in the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands becomes much more worthwhile. While these resorts may require a coach transfer followed by a catamaran, water taxi or even a scenic helicopter or seaplane flight, the experience is all part of the adventure and well worth the extra travel time.

Expert travel tip
When planning family holidays for our clients, one of the first things we consider is the transfer time from Nadi Airport to the resort. This is especially important when travelling with babies or younger children, as a shorter journey can make a big difference after an international flight. If you’re planning a longer holiday, however, we often recommend travelling a little further to one of the outer islands, where the extra transfer time is rewarded with an unforgettable tropical island experience.

Food, dining and meal plans

Meals are an important part of any family holiday and can also be one of the biggest expenses if they’re not included in your package.

Some resorts include daily breakfast, while others offer half-board, full-board or all-inclusive meal plans. The best option for your family will depend on your children’s ages, how often you plan to dine outside the resort and the style of holiday you’re looking for.

Many Fiji resorts offer extensive buffet breakfasts, themed dinner nights and a choice of restaurants serving everything from fresh seafood and local Fijian cuisine to pizzas, pasta, Asian dishes and familiar favourites for younger travellers. Most resorts also cater well for dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

If you’re travelling with teenagers or children with healthy appetites, a meal plan can often represent excellent value and make budgeting much easier before you leave home.

Expert travel tip
We always compare meal plan options when preparing your quote. In many cases, paying a little extra before you travel can save your family money during your holiday while giving you the freedom to simply relax and enjoy your time together.

Accommodation to suit the needs of your family

Choosing the right accommodation can have a significant impact on your family’s comfort and enjoyment throughout your holiday. While it can be tempting to book the least expensive room category, a little extra space can make all the difference, particularly if you’re staying for a week or longer.

Many Fiji resorts offer a range of family-friendly accommodation, including interconnecting rooms, family suites, self-contained apartments and spacious two-bedroom villas. These options provide parents with extra privacy, give children room to play and allow everyone to relax after a busy day of swimming, snorkelling and exploring.

When comparing accommodation, consider practical features such as separate sleeping areas, kitchen or kitchenette facilities, multiple bathrooms, laundry facilities and outdoor living spaces. These small conveniences can make travelling with young children much easier and more enjoyable.

If you’re travelling with grandparents or another family, larger villas can also provide excellent value by allowing everyone to stay together while still enjoying their own private space.

Expert travel tip
We always recommend choosing accommodation that suits the way your family likes to holiday, not just your budget. Spending a little more on a room or villa with extra space can make your holiday far more comfortable and relaxing, especially when travelling with young children or on longer stays.

Multi-generational family holidays.

A multi-generational holiday is a wonderful opportunity to create unforgettable family experiences.

A Fiji holiday isn’t just for parents and children. More and more families are travelling with grandparents, creating wonderful opportunities to spend quality time together while sharing unforgettable experiences across generations.

One of the greatest advantages of Fiji is that there’s something for everyone. Grandparents can relax by the pool, indulge in a spa treatment or enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the ocean, while parents take part in water sports or excursions with the children. Kids Clubs also give parents and grandparents the flexibility to enjoy some downtime, knowing the children are having fun in a safe and welcoming environment.

Many resorts are well suited to larger family groups, offering interconnecting rooms, spacious family suites and multi-bedroom villas that provide everyone with plenty of room while still allowing the family to holiday together. Resorts with a variety of restaurants, multiple swimming pools and activities for all ages also make it easy for everyone to enjoy their holiday at their own pace.

Travelling with grandparents can also make the experience even more rewarding for children. Whether it’s snorkelling together, sharing a traditional Fijian cultural experience, watching the sunset or simply enjoying long family dinners, these are often the moments that become the most treasured holiday memories.

Expert travel tip
If you’re planning a multi-generational holiday, let us know who is travelling and what everyone enjoys. We can recommend resorts with the right accommodation, facilities and activities to ensure every generation has a relaxing and memorable Fiji holiday.

Family holiday experiences and activities.

One of the reasons families return to Fiji time and time again is the incredible variety of experiences available. Whether your family loves relaxing on the beach, exploring the ocean, learning about local culture or seeking adventure, Fiji offers activities to suit every age and interest.

While every resort has its own facilities and activity program, many of the experiences that make Fiji so memorable are shared across the islands.

Spending time on the water

With calm lagoons, warm tropical waters and vibrant coral reefs, it’s no surprise that many of Fiji’s best family memories are made on or in the ocean.

Many resorts include complimentary use of non-motorised water sports equipment such as kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkelling gear, making it easy for families to spend hours exploring together. Glass-bottom boat tours, sailing trips and sunset cruises are also popular, while older children and teenagers may enjoy surfing, jet skiing or parasailing where available.

Whether you’re paddling across a crystal-clear lagoon or watching colourful fish beneath the surface, Fiji’s beautiful waters provide endless opportunities to enjoy time together.

Snorkelling and marine life

Fiji is often referred to as the “Soft Coral Capital of the World”, making it one of the best destinations for families wanting to experience marine life up close.

Many resorts have coral reefs located just metres from the beach, allowing even first-time snorkellers to encounter colourful tropical fish, giant clams, sea stars and vibrant coral gardens. Depending on where you’re staying, you may also spot turtles, reef sharks, rays and dolphins during organised excursions.

For many children, their first snorkelling experience in Fiji becomes one of the lasting memories of their holiday.

The warmth of the Fijian culture

One of the things that sets Fiji apart from many other tropical destinations is its rich culture and genuine hospitality.

Many resorts offer opportunities to experience traditional Fijian customs through meke performances, fire dancing, village visits, weaving demonstrations, cooking classes, kava ceremonies and language lessons. Children can also learn traditional games and hear stories about Fijian life and history.

These experiences provide families with a deeper appreciation of Fiji beyond its beautiful beaches and create meaningful memories that last long after the holiday has ended.

Exploring beyond your resort

Although many families are perfectly happy relaxing at their resort, venturing beyond its grounds can add another dimension to your holiday.

Depending on where you’re staying, you may wish to visit a traditional Fijian village, hike to a waterfall, take a river safari, explore limestone caves, zipline through tropical rainforest or spend the day island hopping. There are also opportunities to visit local markets, enjoy eco tours and learn about Fiji’s unique wildlife and conservation projects.

These experiences allow families to see a different side of Fiji while creating unforgettable adventures together.

The simple moments matter most

While Fiji offers countless activities, many families find their favourite memories come from the simplest moments.

Building sandcastles on the beach, collecting shells, swimming in the warm ocean, watching spectacular sunsets, sharing long dinners together and laughing by the pool often become the highlights of the holiday. Away from busy schedules, school and work, families have the opportunity to reconnect and enjoy uninterrupted time together.

It’s these shared experiences, combined with Fiji’s welcoming people and relaxed pace of life, that encourage so many families to return year after year.

Expert travel tip
Every resort offers a different mix of activities and experiences. When planning your holiday, tell us what your family enjoys most, whether it’s snorkelling, cultural experiences, adventure activities or simply relaxing by the beach. Our top 10 tips for planning a family holiday in Fiji.

Planning a family holiday to Fiji is exciting, but choosing the right destination, resort and package can feel overwhelming. Here are some of our top tips to help you make the most of your holiday.

1. Choose the right region

Every part of Fiji offers a different experience. Consider your family’s ages, interests and the type of holiday you’re looking for before deciding where to stay.

2. Think beyond the price

The cheapest resort isn’t always the best value. Facilities, Kids Clubs, accommodation, meal plans and activities can all have a big impact on your family’s overall holiday experience.

3. Consider transfer times

If you’re travelling with young children or only staying for a few nights, choosing a resort that’s quicker to reach may give you more time to relax and enjoy your holiday.

4. Match the resort to your children’s ages

Kids Clubs, pools and activities vary between resorts. Make sure the resort you choose offers facilities and programs that suit your children’s ages and interests.

5. Look at the accommodation carefully

Interconnecting rooms, family suites and larger villas can make your holiday far more comfortable, particularly if you’re travelling with teenagers, grandparents or planning a longer stay.

6. Compare meal plan options

Meal plans can represent excellent value, especially for families with growing children or teenagers. We can help you work out which option offers the best value for your holiday.

7. Plan more than just beach time

While relaxing is part of the appeal, Fiji also offers incredible snorkelling, cultural experiences, island cruises, village visits and family adventures that can make your holiday even more memorable.

8. Allow time to simply relax

You don’t need to fill every day with activities. Some of the best family memories are made while swimming together, watching the sunset or enjoying a long lunch overlooking the ocean.

9. Book early for the best choice

School holiday periods are extremely popular, particularly with Australian and New Zealand families. Booking early gives you access to the best availability, accommodation options and special offers.
