This secluded island is a designated nature reserve, and its surrounding waters and reef hold the esteemed status of a marine “na tabu,” declared by the Paramount Chief of the Mamanucas. This designation strictly prohibits any form of fishing or shellfish collecting in this pristine marine environment.
