Fiji resort review: Family holiday staying at JMC Resort.
We were delighted to receive the review below from one of our clients who recently returned from a family holiday at the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu, Fiji. Known as one of Fiji’s most renowned eco-luxury resorts, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is a favourite for families seeking a balance of relaxation, adventure, and connection.
Set among lush tropical gardens overlooking the tranquil waters of Savusavu Bay, the resort combines barefoot luxury with authentic Fijian warmth. Families are especially well cared for thanks to the resort’s award-winning Bula Club for Kids, where every child under six is paired with their own dedicated nanny or “buddy”. This ensures parents can enjoy quality time together in the knowledge the kids are exploring and learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
It is common for our guests to report to us that they loved how Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort allowed them to reconnect with nature, culture, and each other. The relaxed pace, thoughtful sustainability practices, and genuine smiles of the Fijian staff create a holiday experience that leaves a lasting impression long after guests return home.

JMC Resort Review
Bula Donna!
Well we are home, and once again it’s a trip that has deeply affected us. Unlike travel we’ve done elsewhere, Fiji always impacts hard. We have always learned to listen to the lessons of travel, each place provides a lesson of some kind I think, but the lessons of Fiji; to be present in the moment, don’t get aggravated by the small stuff, try to maintain that feeling of joy of place and surroundings, really just feels like taking in a deep breath of pure oxygen.
Thank you so much for your recommendation of JMC. It was beyond our expectations and beyond belief beautiful. I was dubious about the buddy scenario, our boy is a bit shy, and not quick to uptake the new, but Cuki, his young male buddy was perfect. He taught him all about the local ecology, how to build crab traps, Fijian language, village protocol, I mean the list goes on. He was perfect for Barry and it’s a system that really worked for us. We got to have loads of time together as a couple and Barry just had the freedom to check in with us whenever he felt like it. He was occupied and made fast friends with local village kids and travellers.
Every visitor there had the same glazed, bemused expression on their faces as they wandered slowly around in wonderment of the place. I spoke to loads of travellers, all from Sydney and there wasn’t a person there that wasn’t planning their next visit.
The garden bure was great in the end. After making an issue of needing aircon, we didn’t use it once, the garden bures get that breeze from the exposed side of the coast, filtered through all that great foliage. The place is so well set up for cooling!
So back to the grind, dreaming of our next trip, we’ve already got tentative plans in our heads of course. I can’t get enough of that northern island now. Vanua Levu and Taveuni is calling for next time. I see there are major moneys being spent in upgrading roads and Savusavu airport and so on, so I’d say visitor numbers will increase slowly to that area, but for now it just feels like a place I could put down roots. I honestly looked at loads of real estate in Savusavu when I was there. I just love that whole area.
So thank you again! I mean I don’t even have the right words to express our gratitude (not that you’d know it from this essay long email) but we are just feeling so blessed to have been able to go and experience that beautiful place and I’m hoping that the shard of Fijian sunset that seems to be glowing in me today stays forever.
Vinaka vakalevu,
Sabrina, Ben and Barry
