JMC Resort Review by Sharon Cooper

After leaving the boutique intimacy of Savasi Island Resort, I moved to the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in the spectacular Savusavu region. While Savasi felt private and secluded, Cousteau offered more of a resort-style experience, with a vibrant atmosphere, endless activities, and a strong focus on families and marine exploration.

One of the resort’s greatest delights was the food. Each day brought a new menu, with three-course lunches and dinners showcasing creativity and fresh influences. No two meals felt the same, and every dish celebrated the flavours of Fiji in its own unique way.

The setting is extraordinary. From the pier I could slip into a marine wonderland.

The setting itself is extraordinary. From the pier, I could slip straight into the water and find myself surrounded by a kaleidoscope of marine life. Snorkelling here was like stepping into a living aquarium, with schools of colourful fish darting across the reef. Being in a calm bay also made it ideal for kayaking.

Each day, a complimentary activities schedule was delivered to my room, with plenty of options to suit all ages. Families could enjoy a daily snorkelling trip together, while adults had their own dedicated excursions. Beyond the resort, there were trips to the markets, a waterfall hike, and even a visit to the local chocolate factory, offering plenty of variety for those wanting to explore the region.

For divers, the on-site dive centre is outstanding, offering personalised trips or group adventures. A visit to the legendary Namena Marine Reserve is a must for any ocean lover.

One of the highlights was the resort’s private island experience. Just a short boat ride away, guests can be dropped off for a few hours of complete seclusion, with kayaks, day beds, and a picnic waiting. It felt like the ultimate castaway escape.

At the Bula Club, children are paired with their own Fijian buddy. The joy on their faces said it all!

Families, in particular, will find JMC unforgettable thanks to the Bula Club. Children are paired with their own Fijian buddy, and the joy on their faces said it all. The kids club program is thoughtful, fun, and engaging, allowing parents to relax knowing their kids are having the time of their lives.

Accommodation at Jean-Michel Cousteau is in spacious, breezy bures, now equipped with air conditioning for extra comfort. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with every detail carefully overseen by Kitty, the resort’s fabulous host, who ensured everything ran smoothly.

One evening, we enjoyed a complimentary cocktail party on the pier, sipping pineapple caipiroskas and nibbling on canapés under twinkling fairy lights. It was a magical evening.

In short, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort blends relaxation, adventure, and world-class hospitality in a way that feels effortlessly Fijian. Whether you’re a couple seeking romance, a diver chasing underwater wonders, or a family looking for a holiday that everyone will love, this resort delivers an unforgettable experience that keeps guests returning year after year.
