Yasawa Islands’ accommodation and experiences.

Step beyond the ordinary, and experience the extraordinary.

Until recently, the Yasawa Islands were seen as a “secret” alternative to the manicured resorts of the Mamanuca group, becoming a favourite for travellers seeking natural beauty, a slower pace, and a more immersive island experience. Today, more travellers are discovering and choosing this island group, drawn to its turquoise waters and white sandy beaches that feel beautifully unspoilt, offering a more authentic Fiji holiday experience. And we have to agree…

The Yasawas Islands are evolving in all the right ways. While they have retained their authentic charm and relaxed atmosphere, they are now more accessible than ever. With a new high-speed ferry fleet, beautifully refreshed boutique resorts, and a growing focus on luxury and style, there has never been a better time to explore this stunning region north of Port Denarau.

Bucket-list experiences in the Yasawa Islands

Among the many unforgettable experiences on offer, the manta ray season from May to October is a true highlight. The channel between Drawaqa and Naviti Islands remains one of nature’s most incredible encounters, where you can swim alongside these graceful giants. At Mantaray Island Resort, the refined “Manta Alert” system adds to the excitement, when the signal sounds, it’s time to head straight to the water for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Another must-do is a visit to the sacred Sawa-I-Lau Caves in the far north. These limestone caves offer a unique and memorable experience, beginning with a naturally lit swimming chamber and continuing with a short guided underwater swim into a hidden inner cave with remarkable acoustics. For the best experience, visit early in the day to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before the day-trip visitors arrive.

Travelling to the Yasawa Islands is all part of the experience.

It’s never been easier to access the Yasawa Islands. The biggest recent change is the retirement of the long-serving Yasawa Flyer II, replaced by the new Yasawa Flyer III, which has completely elevated the island transfer experience.

Built by AusShips in Queensland, the Yasawa Flyer III is faster and significantly more stable in the swell of the Bligh Water, making the journey to the outer islands smoother and more comfortable than ever before.

For an even more enjoyable transfer, the Bula Club (Captain’s Lounge) upgrade offers enhanced air-conditioning, complimentary snacks, and a dedicated host.

If the Yasawa Flyer doesn’t suit your schedule, other transfer options include fixed wing aeroplane to Yasawa Island Resort or private helicopter transfer.  Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular ways to arrive at your resort, after soaring over the islands before landing.

FAQs about the Yasawa Islands

Q: How do I get to the Yasawa Islands from Nadi?

A: Most travellers take the Yasawa Flyer, a high-speed catamaran that departs Port Denarau daily at 8:45 am. The journey can take between 2 to 5 hours depending on how far north your resort is. For a faster arrival, fixed wing or seaplane transfers depart from near Nadi Airport, taking around 30 minutes depending upon your destination. In 2026, the new Yasawa Flyer III offers a much smoother ride and upgraded cabin options.

Q: When is the best time of year to visit the Yasawas?

A: The “sweet spot” is the dry season from May to October. This period offers the clearest skies, lower humidity, and calmer seas. It also perfectly aligns with the Manta Ray migration. If you’re looking to dodge the crowds, the shoulder months of May and September are our personal favourites.

Q: When is Manta Ray season in Fiji?

A: The Manta Rays typically frequent the Yasawa channels between May and October. They are drawn to the nutrient-rich plankton funnelled through the narrow passages near Drawaqa Island. Many resorts in this area, like the newly refurbished Mantaray Island Resort or Paradise Cove, run dedicated snorkelling excursions when a sighting is confirmed.

Q: Are the Sawa-I-Lau Caves safe for non-swimmers?

A: The first main chamber is accessible via a short staircase and is easy to enjoy for anyone comfortable in waist-deep water. However, reaching the second “secret” chamber requires a short underwater swim through a limestone tunnel. We always provide life jackets and experienced local guides to assist, but the second chamber is best suited for confident swimmers.

Q: Can I visit the Yasawas on a day trip?

A: While it is technically possible to visit the Yasawa Islands in one day via the Yasawa Flyer III or helicopter, we don’t usually recommend it. To truly experience the magic of the “Blue Lagoon” region, you need at least 3 or 4 nights. The Yasawas are about slowing down, and a day trip often feels like you’ve spent more time in transit than in the water.
